Uspud

1992 · speaker, slide projections, clarinet, tuba, string quartet, piano, harmonium · (35')

Notes

I have made two arrangments of Erik Satie's 'Christian ballet' Uspud, composed in 1892. The most recent is my digital realisation featuring solo harmonium, which I created in 2024. I have published a substantial article about this in the Journal of the Royal Musical Association.

This page contains the score of the version I created in 1994 for the George W. Welch ensemble. This was performed at the Blackeath Concert Halls in what, to my knowledge, was the UK premiere. The performance included recitation of the libretto by the actor Simon Carter, and slide projections of the stage directions by Mark Thomson. I played the harmonium part in the ensemble. Deatiled notes are given in the score that is linked.
